The TWIN CITY FUSION 18u (formerly BNGSA Fusion) has roster openings for the 2012 summer season. Looking for TWO dedicated second yr 18 players who have not turned 19 as of 1/1/2012.

We have significant playing time at corner IF and OF positions. Utility type player a big plus. The Fusion just finished in the top 50 at the ASA/USA National Tourney. You would be joining a group of experienced players who treat each other with respect.

We will be playing 5-6 tournaments starting second weekend in June and will end the season at the ASA state tourney. Cost to be determined but will require a non refundable deposit of $150 if you want to reserve. Tryout may not be necessary if you have played ASA 18u A level travel ball or equivalent. This team would be ideal for college players returning from their first year of college or are heading to college in the fall of 2012.

7/24: Summer 2012 Fusion - Players Needed

The Fusion will undego a few changes as we enter our EIGHTH season of play during the summer of 2012. We will become an independent travel team registered with the ASA and will carry a roster of 12-14 players.

We will play 5-6 tournaments starting June 9th and will end the season after the 18U-A State Tournament the weekend of July 14th. We will not be playing in any college exposure tournaments and may play one out of state tournament.

After Nationals next week (Aug 1-7), we will know how many openings we will have for the 2012 squad. It is likely we will be adding 3-4 players. We know a lot of teams and players so a tryout may not be necessary. All we would ask for is a non refundable deposit to hold your spot and your committment.

I would like to thank the BNGSA for providing the Fusion an opportunity to play in their organization for seven years. It has been a great journey and we have been able to navigate around a lot of obstacles on the way. We started from scratch, worked our way from the B level all the way to a top "A" level travel team in the State of Illinois. For various reasons it makes sense for us to become an independent travel team for 2012. We have always been committed to winning and losing with class. Most of all, we have been able to develop the girls into to some pretty darn good softball players. Many are going to play in college at various levels. We will continue this legacy in 2012 and maybe beyond if 23U softball offers us an opportunity to move up in 2013.

East Peoria held a 2-0 lead after 4 innings. Fusion scored 1 run in bottom of 5 on a 2 out RBI single by Kyley McKeown scoring Canella Ontiveros. Andi Wilson scored on an East Peoria error in the bottom of six to tie the game 2-2. Neither team scored in the 7th. The Fusion had bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th and no outs. East Peoria pitcher Kendall Gher struck out the next three batters. Gher struck out 13 in 9 2/3 innings. East Peoria scored one in to of 9 but the Fusion answered on a 2 out RBI single by Kyley McKeown scoring Canella Ontiveros. East Peoria scored in the top of the 10th to make the score 4-3. In the bottom of the 10th, 3rd International tiebreaker inning, Christina Pagan singled scoring Danielle Warner. Canella Ontiveros got the game winning hit over SS with two outs scoring Andi Wilson.

The Fusion opened scoring in the top of the first on a two out RBI single by Andi Wilson, scoring Julie Herek. Midwest Energy scored 2 runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th to take a 6-1 lead. Danielle Warner replaced starter Sarah Moritz in the bottom of 4 and stranded two Midwest Energy runners. The Fusion scored 5 in the top of the 5th. Andi Wilson, Cassie Saufley and Christina Pagan all had RBI singles. A two out, 2 RBI double by Lindsey Krippel tied the game at 6-6. Midwest Energy scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th to eliminate the Fusion from the tournament.

The Fusion finished the tournament 1-2 and are now 27-19 on the season.

Fusion Opens Kessler Classic with Pool Play Win

East Peoria - The BNGSA opened pool play with a 9-1 win over the Midwest Sluggers at Eastside Center. Danielle Warner got all the run support she needed as the Fusion scored 6 in the bottom of the 2nd. Warner scattered five hits and struck out 3 in 6 innings of work. Sarah Moritz came in and worked the 7th to get ready for Saturday.

In the bottom of the second, Fusion 3B Brittiany Tjarks laced an RBI single to left after Kyley McKeown and Cassie Saufley led off the inning with singles. The Fusion plated 4 more runs on RBI's by Brigette Tracy, Julie Herek and Andi Wilson in addition to some help from the Midwest Sluggers defense.

The Fusion scored three insurance runs in the 6th. Christina Pagan led off the inning with a 2B. After a series of errors by the Sluggers, the Fusion ran the score to 9-1.

Danielle Stralow of the 2011 Class 2A State Champion Morrison Filles, took the loss for the Midwest Sluggers.

Fusion History Lesson #2 - 1:30 AM in Pontiac

People can say what they want about tournaments in Pontiac but they provided some of our most memorable moments in Fusion history. You were always guaranteed a bunch of games and it did not matter how late you played. Case in point. 5/7/2006 -- School Night -- Championship Game started at Midnight.

This was the first time we played in a Championship game. After taking a parents vote, we decide to play. I think most did not go to school the next day! I remember the McLean County Stars coach getting ejected late in the evening and then he hid behind a shed and still gave signs to his team. They lost out. We had a bad habit of getting second in most of our tournaments that year, but finished 1st n the one that counted.

I also remember Danielle carrying the entire pitching load that weekend. 30 innings. She got a bunch of run support but I had to take her out in the final inning of the Championship game because her arm hurt so bad and the Saulk Valley Storm beat us. Wonder where they are now?

Fusion History Lesson #1

Does anyone remember the title game at the Pekin Shootout on June 11, 2006? I sure do. Current Fusion SS Lindsey Krippel had about 12 assists at SS as the Livingston County Express defeated the Fusion 5-2 in the Championship game.

Second Place - Pekin Shootout

The Fusion had run ruled the Express 14-5 the day before in pool play. Current Fusion Utility player Brittiany Tjarks was part of the winning battery in the Championship game.

The game started out with a bang as the Express coach got tossed after Brittiany hit Fusion leadoff batter Allie Lindstrom iin the back running to 1B after a bunt. Allie was out of the baseline but the umps missed it and the Express coach got a little excited. Always enjoyed playing the Express.

The Express was an 12U-A team at this time. We probably should of been as we went on to win 12U-B State a month later.

bngsafusion.org will rate all non BNGSA tournaments this year to give the softball community an opportunity to get an unbiased opinion on tournaments we are a part of. Should of started this years ago but never too late. We may catch up on the next rainy day because I have a memory like a steel trap when it comes to these things.

Captial City Classic - June 11-12 - Land of Lincoln Junior Olympic Softball Complex - Springfield, IL

How we did: Finished 4th out of 16 teams

Format: Sixteen 18U teams -- 6 game guarantee. Two pool play games. Winner plays Winner, Losers play Losers to determine 1-4 seeds from every pool. Bracket play is a guaranteed 4 games. Medals to 4th place and better. Final Results

Format Rating: A

Competition: Good mix of Illinois Teams from north, central and south. Team Oak Stars, The Hitting Center, Metamora, Midwest Freedom all look pretty good early on. Oly Fire and East Peoria will get things together.

Competition Rating: B
Tournament Facility:
Good: 7 diamonds with adequate parking and warm up areas. Field crews lined fields on a regular basis. Dugouts close to home plate. Adequate and reasonable concessions. Had t-shirt vendor making shirts on demand.
Needs improvement: Lack of fence height allows foul balls to go all over the place. Need more bathrooms for females! Would like the see outfield fences be a consistent distance on all fields. Fields are nice if they are moist. Always get too dusty when really dry.

Facility Rating: B

Tournament Administration:
Good: Utilized a hired, non biased tournament director. Professional check-in. Required rosters and ASA coaching credentials. E-mail of pool assignments received on June 2 for June 11-12 tournament. All teams showed up for our age division. Complex website is adequate with directions and final standings were posted a few days after the end of the tourney. Rainout hotline available and was updated on a timely basis when there was rain on Friday night. Games, for the most part, were on time.
Needs Improvement: Need bigger pool play standings and tournament brackets. Would like to see scorecards utilized for coaches to turn in game scores.

Tournament Administration Rating: A-

Umpires: Always shaky ground here but umpiring is part of the entire experience. As an experienced, registered ASA umpire, there are certain core things I expect.
Good: Umpires were in uniform and did ASA bat and helmet checks before the game. Pre-game manager conferences did a good job covering ground rules and expectations.
Needs Improvement: No Umpire in Chief at facility. Some need to work on timing. Too many out-safes and calls made before the play was over. Much of this was due to bad positioning. Not very approachable to have a discussion in a professional manner.

Overall Rating: B

Liked format and the Friday rains kept the fields from becoming a dust bowl. Springfield has really improved the last couple of years and especially since our 12U years. Keep up the good work. Parents, post comments if you have anything to add.

6/19: Weather and Schedule Adjustments Stop Fusion

Fusion Fans and Ray: An early morning rain shower caused an enough of a delay to where only the top two seeded teams in each pool were invited back to play today due to factors outside of our control. Disappointing considering we played almost a perfect game vs. The Xtreme Havoc from the Quad Cities to scratch a #3 seed after a 2-0 win in our last game yesterday. There were at least 3 D-1 coaches watching the Havoc. We were a part of a real tough pool which included SGS Storm and Team Oak Stars. We had momentum and had a real good shot to make the final four. We will never know.

The only silver lining for "the game" and our organization we are a part of is:

we were able to be a gracious host team this weekend by playing a 4th game game yesterday vs. the Quad Cites Firebirds USA (we won that game) because the Chillicothe Blue Devils were a no show. (All tourney directors beware of this team not showing up to your tournament). It prepared us well for the game against the Havoc and future tournaments.
an out of town team who had to stay overnight did good enough yesterday to have a slot today in single elimination play. They had to spend a bunch more $$ than we did this weekend.
The Fusion parents did a great job filling volunteer responsibilites. All of our games had scorekeepers and announcers. Fields #1 - #4 never looked nicer during our shifts.

Looking forward to bigger and better things for the 2011 Fusion. Keep your heads held up high as we are not done yet!

Fusion 2B Andi Wilson slides into home in Game #1

The BNGSA Fusion marched into Marian Kneer Softball Stadium at Illinois State University hoping to maintain momemtum from a 4th place finish in their first summer tournament. The opponent was a familiar SGS Storm team led by Quincy College recruit Murphi Armstrong.

The Fusion and Storm were tied 3-3 after 7 innings n a pitching duel between Armstrong and Fusion pitcher Sarah Moritz. After neither team scored in the 8th, Streator plated their international tiebreaker runner in the top of the ninth to take a 4-3 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the 9th and Danielle Warner at 3B, Julie Herek ripped a 2B to score Warner to tie the game. Then, Fusion 2B Andi Wilson collected her thrid hit of the game off of Armstrong by drilling a walkoff double to left center scoring Herek to give the Fusion their first ever win over Streator.

In the second game the Fusion scored a run in the first inning and held Streator scoreless until they plated 2 runs in the top of the 4th. The Fusion scored 3 in the bottom of the 5th to take a 4-2 lead after two out RBI singles by Wilson and Fusion SS Lindsey Krippel. Streator then got to starter Danielle Warner in the 6th scoring 2 in the 6th and 4 in the 7th to take a 8-4 lead. The Fusion did not quit as they scored two in the bottom of the 7th and left the tying runs at 2B and 3B before dropping the nightcap to Streator.

What a great night at Champion Fields as the Intercity defeated the Area 10-5 in the 18th Annual Pantagraph All-Star Game! At one time in the 7th inning, all seven graduated seniors who are former and current BNGSA Fusion players were on the field at the same time. Sarah Moritz - P, Christina Pagan - C, Cassie Saufley - 1B, Andi Wilson - 2B, Jane McCullough - SS, Megan McDermott - 3B and Danielle Warner LF.

Current and Former Fusion girls made their hits count as 3 of them drove in 7 runs led by Intercity MVP Megan McDermott's 4th inning Grand Slam to give Danielle Warner the pitching win. Danielle also added two hits including a double and two RBI's. FIVE different Fusion girls stepped on home plate (Wilson, Warner, McCullough, McDermott, Saufley). SS Jane McCullough made a great play early in the game in the hole to give the Intercity some momentum against the Area squad.

After Danielle pitched the middle 4 innings striking out 6 and allowing 4 earned runs...three on a homer to Stef Wessels. Sarah Moritz came in to shut the door allowing one unearned run while strinking out 3.

What a perfect night for all former and current Fusion players, parents, grandparents and coaches to watch our girls have a big impact in their final High School game. Proud of all of you and thanks for the pitcture!

Hot Summer Night -- Fusion Splits with Mid-State Magic

The BNGSA Fusion earned their first win of the summer travel season with a 3-1 win over the Mid-State Magic. Rockford College recruit Sarah Moritz (1-1) was the winning pitcher. Moritz scattered 4 hits in 7 innings while striking out 4. She also helped her cause with an RBI double in the 2nd to give the Fusion an early lead.

Catcher Kyley McKeown added a double while Julie Herek, Shannon Stuart, and Andi Wilson all went 1-2. The defensive play of the game was a diving catch by Fusion 2B Wilson in the top of the 7th to prevent a Magic rally.

The second game saw the Fusion take a 3-1 lead into the top of the 5th until a throwing error helped plate three runs for the Magic. The Fusion tied the game at the end of the time limit after Julie Herek led off with a triple and and later scored on a two out single by 3B Shannon Stuart. The Mid-State Magic were able to score in the ITB inning while the Fusion was not able to get a run across in the bottom of the 7th.

North Park Recruit Danielle Warner started for the Fusion striking out 4 in 5 innings. Warner allowed 3 hits and 3 unearned runs. Brigette Tracy (0-1) pitched the final two innings and was the hard luck loser, allowing only the ITB runner to score.

The Fusion pounded out 11 hits. SS Lindsey Krippel led the way with 2 hits including a 2 out, 2 RBI double to put the Fusion up 2-0 after three. Julie Herek was 2-2 and scored two runs. Brigette Tracy, Christina Pagan and Canella Ontiveros also chipped in two hits each.

Two defensive plays by the Fusion prevented three Magic runs. SS Lindsey Krippel flagged a grounder up the middle to save a run in the top of the 6th. Julie Herek threw out a runner at 1B from RF with two outs in the ITB inning saving two runs. It was a great play!

Fusion Open Season Losing DH to BNGSA Magic

The BNGSA Fusion definately suffered from the annual High School Softball hangover in an 8-7 and 7-4 loss to the BNGSA Magic.

Game #1: The Fusion out hit the Magic 12-7 but stranded a bunch of runners and made errors at the wrong time to propel the Magic to victory. The Fusion had the table set in the bottom of the 7th with two runners on and could not plate a tying or winning run.

Danielle Warner (0-1) took the loss for the Fusion. Julie Herek was 3-4 and 2 scored two runs. Kyley McKeown was 2-3 with a 2B and RBI.

Game #2: The Fusion led 4-2 heading into the bottom of the 4th in the time limit game until the Magic plated 5 unearned runs to send the Fusion to the loss column for the second game in a row.

Sarah Moritz (0-1) was the tough luck loser for the Fusion. Christina Pagan and Shannon Stuart led the Fusion with 2 hits each and both scored a run.

Welcome to Summer ball Fusion Girls! Everyone is done with High School. U-High lost to Mt. Zion 6-2 today.

Monday night: 6:00 batting practice and uniform handout. Champion Fields cages. I will be there till about 7:20.

Tuesday night: DH is at Maxwell Park-West field to the south of Champion Fields vs BNGSA Magic. Team meeting at 4:30 sharp under a nice shade tree to go over team goals and expectations. Warmup starting at 5:00. Out: Andi Wilson. Uniforms: white pants, black socks.

Wednesday: DH vs. Mid-State Magic at Champion Fields #5. Warmup starts at 5:00. Expecting full squad. Uniforms: Black pants, blue socks.

Thursday-Friday take off and rest for weekend.

Saturday-Sunday: Tournament times and info for next weekend is posted at http://www.bngsafusion.org We have three games on Saturday and three games on Sunday.

New Doubleheader on Wednesday June 29th vs. the BNGSA Angels 23U at 6:oo pm at Champion #5. Will be playing against an awesome team with a roster full of college players form all different levels.
The BNGSA Angels Varsity have disbanded so our July 28th DH has been cancelled.

Freeport changed the location of the game without telling U-High. Had 25 minutes to warmu-up on a 36 degree day. Took a few innings but Freeport imploded in the 5th. 6 hits and 3 errors later, U-High plated 9 runs.

Softball Results involving Fusion Girls from Tuesday, March 28.

U-High beat Ridgeview 11-1 at Champion Fields in Normal.

Danielle Warner scattered three hits over 5 innings and struck out 7. At the plate she was 1-2 with an RBI.
Opposing pitcher Fusion Girl Brigette Tracy got no help from her defense as they committed six errors in U-high's 8 run 5th inning. Only 4 of the 11 runs were earned. Brigette had a successful sacrifice bunt in the first inning.
Fusion girl and U-High catcher Kyley McKeown scored two runs, had a hit and a SB in the leadoff spot for the Pioneers.
Shannon Stuart started 3B for the Pioneers, batting third.

Softball Results involving Fusion Girls from Monday, March 28.

Prairie Central stays unbeaten in a 9-4 win over Dwight at Fairbury. Fusion Girl and Heartland Recruit Brittiany Tjarks had a grand slam in the sixth inning for the Hawks (4-0).
Pontiac defeats BHS 12-11 in 9 innings. Bloomington (1-1) led 11-9 in the fifth before the Indians countered with two in the bottom of the fifth to force extra innings. Julie Herek was flawless at SS for the Purple Raiders.
Heyworth came up on the short-end of an 8-7 extra innning decision against Midwest Central. Rightfully so as Heyworth committed NINE errors. Fusion Girl Sarah Moritz pitched all 9 innings allowing 3 earned runs while striking out 12. Sarah was 1-4 at the plate with a walk and 2 RBI's. Sarah has an ERA of 1.82 and is hitting .370 early this season!

2/1: Brittiany Tjarks Signs With Heartland!

Prairie Central Senior and Fusion Girl Brittiany Tjarks has signed a letter of intent to continue her softball career with the Heartland Hawks. Brittiany will be catching for the 2009 NJCAA D-II National Champions. Brittiany joined the Fusion for the 2010-2011 season after playing travel softball for many years with the Prairie Central Express.

Brittiany is a three sport athlete at Prairie Central High School competing in Cross Country, Basketball and Softball. Brittiany is a huge contributor on the hardwood for the the 18-5 Prairie Central Hawks. She is 14th in area scoring at 10.7 pts a game. She is 5th in three pointers made with 38, one behind Fusion and Hawk teammate Lindsey Krippel.

As for softball, Brittiany was a second team Corn Belt Conference performer as a junior and was a solid contributor with the Fusion last fall. She has the ability to play multiple positions well and is always ready to play.

Heartland CC is a member of the Mid-West Athletic Conference and is coached by John Bassett. Heartland was 37-18 last season, 26-4 in conference play, finishing second to Parkland CC by percentage points.

The BNGSA Fusion 18U-A travel softball team is looking for teams to visit Champion Fields in Normal to play weekday doubleheaders. All Games start at 6:00 p.m. and will have two ASA umpires assigned. We also have the use of the Illinois State University softball complex for one DH in July.

Here is the information for the Hitting Center Invitational Sept 18 - 19 at the UIS Softball Complex also known as the Lincoln Land Junior Olympic complex in Springfield.

Easiest way
Take I-55 South to exit 90.
At top of ramp turn left (east) on Toronto Rd.
Proceed approx. 1 mile and turn left (north) on 11th St.
The complex is approximately 1 mile on the left.

We play at 11:00/1:00/3:00 on Saturday. Sunday at the same times.

8/15: New Additions to the Fusion Family

The BNGSA Fusion is pleased to announce four new players to their 2010-2011 roster.

Sarah Moritz - Sarah is a senior at Heyworth High School and played in the Chicago area with the Illinois Angels and New Lenox Lightning the past two summer seasons. Prior to this she played for the coaches of the current BNGSA Angels 17. Sarah will primarily pitch for the Fusion and play 1B and corner OF as a secondary position.

Lindsey Krippel - Lindsey is a junior at Prairie Central High School and played for the PC Express for as long as I can remember. She was a first team Corn Belt conference selection last season. Lindsey will play SS/2B/3B for the Fusion.

Brittiany Tjarks - Brittiany is a senior at Prairie Central High School and played for the PC Express for as long as I can remember as well. She was a second team Corn Belt conference selection last season and had an excellent tryout last week.....twice. Brittiany will be a Utility player for the Fusion.

Andrea Wilson - Andrea is a senior at Normal Community West High School. She has played in the BNGSA program for seven years, most recently with the BNGSA Shock. Andrea and Sarah were teammates on the BNGSA Angels. She is High School teammates with current Fusion players Christina Pagan and Cassie Saufley. She will play 2B/SS//OF.

The Fall 2010-Summer 2011 BNGSA Fusion 18U-A Travel Softball Team is looking to add four players to their roster. Due to BNGSA rules, to be eligible for the Fusion, you must attend BNGSA Tryouts on Saturday, August 14th, 2010: 11:00am - 1:30pm at Champion Fields in Normal, IL.

The Fusion plays as much as they can against the best opponents we can schedule. We are very competitive and will play in several college exposure tournaments. We are an established team entering our SEVENTH year of play. In the summer, we will play almost every weekend in June and July. We will end of 2011 season at the ASA/USA 18U National Championship held at Champion Fields. We have a bid to this tourney.

Protection List and Player Needs: We are protecting EIGHT players. The protected players are a dedicated core willing to work in the off season and compete on game day.

The Fusion is looking to add 4 players to roster. In order of need, we are looking for help at P (Need 1, maybe 2), 2B (Starter), SS (Backup), OF/Utility for 2011. Each player needs a primary and secondary position and be available for all tournaments.

Capsule of Fall 2001 and Summer 2011 Season: We will provide an opportunity to practice on the weekends starting in August. We have entered two fall tournaments in Springfield (Sept 18-19 and Oct 22-24 – Midland Magic Showcase). We will play a couple of more weekend events (@ Champion) and an indoor tourney. Off season conditioning and hitting practice is highly encouraged. We suggest the use of the Sports Enhancement Center or equivalent until the High School Season begins.

Tentative 2011 Summer Tournament Schedule: Weekend of June 11 (Out of Town); June 18 (BNGSA Tourney); June 25 (Out of Town); July 4 (BNGSA Tourney); July 9 Off, July 16 (ASA 18U-A State probably out of town); July 23 (Springfield-College Exposure); Week of August 1 (ASA/USA 18U National Championship @ Champion Fields – We have a bid to this tourney); limited weekday doubleheaders. Games (45-55).

The BNGSA $250 player fee will be due by October 1st. There will be additional fundraising each player will be required to participate.

Bowling Green KY: The BNGSA Fusion opened the 16U-A Northern Nationals with an 8-0 victory over MN snowcats. Danielle Warner allowed 2 hits, no walks in 100 degree heat. Kyley McKeown did a great job mixing up the pitches .

The best take away for Coach Warner is that the Fusion defense made ZERO errors!! The game started with Canella Ontiveros making a diving catch in center and ended with a Shannon Stuart walk off single in the bottom of 6th for the run rule . Got video. It was a web gem.

Cassie Saufley had a big 2 RBI double for the Fusion. Next up: Cincinnati Doom North for the pool pod championship at 4:45.

6/19 - 6/21: NSC Recruiting Tourney

The Fusion started playing good softball on the first of three big road trips this summer. Our first one took us to Overland Park, KS to the NSC Recruiting Tourney.

The Blue Valley Recreation Complex has to be one of the best facilities in the country. There is ample space to warm-up including infield skins between diamonds. All the stands around the 8 fields are covered. There are warnings tracks, 200 foot fences and even old fashioned street lights.

Mary Nutter of the NSC runs a very organized tournament. She has good relationships with coaches she brings in due to her Winter Clinics. This tourney is well attended by College Coaches at all times of the day.

Pool play games do not count as the single elimination tourney on Sunday is pre-drawn. Pool games feature situational play so they are valuable early season work for teams coming off of high school seasons and more so for the College Coaches.

The Fusion played the Topeka Quest, KC Explosion II and Sliderz in Pool Play. Scores were kept just for grins and time limits were drop dead. Top Performers included:

Single Elimination - Game #1 vs. KC Xplosion -- Lost 2-1 ITB

In our first single elimination game the Fusion rode a terrific pitching performance by Danielle Warner through six innings before two errors sent the game into ITB. As visitors, the Fusion did not score and was unable to stop the Xplosion from winning the game. This was a very tough loss.

Overall a great team bonding experience. The Hilton Garden Inn in Overland Park served us well once again as it is the third year in a row we stayed there. We made our annual trip to On the Border and celebrated Canella's 16th birthday.

6/16: Fusion drops a pair to the Streator Wildcats

The BNGSA Fusion dropped a pair of games to the Streator Wildcats tonight by scores of 8-0 and 6-5.

Game #1 - The Fusion only managed four hits, two by 2B Jane McCullough. Chloe Hundman allowed only one earned run while striking out six in the circle for the Fusion.

Game #2 - The Fusion fell behind 4-0 early but tied the score in 3rd and left the game winners on base in the last inning of play. Catcher Kyley McKeown had two hits, 2 RBI's and earned a walk for the Fusion. Brigette Tracy also chipped in two hits and an RBI. Danielle Warner allowed 4 earned runs but buckled down after a four run first inning.

The Fusion dropped to 9-4 on the season.

6/13: Fusion Gets Win and T-Storm Cancels Tourney

The Fusion finshed the BNGSA Sports Enhancement Tournament with a 7-4 win over the Springfield Hitting Center in single elimination play on Sunday. This win advanced the Fusion to the final 8 of the 24 team tourney....and then the rain came. A gully washer that cancelled the rest of the tourney.

Chloe Hundman (3-1) picked up the win for the Fusion. Chloe only allowed one earned run in 4 innings of work. The Fusion offense was sharp plating at least one run in every inning. Mychelle Stevens doubled and tripled for the Fusion while Christina Pagan, Danielle Warner and Kyley McKeown added two hits each.

The Fusion moves to 9-2 on the season.

6/12: Fusion Finish Second in Pool Play - Look Forward to Sunday

In Pool Play Saturday morning, the BNGSA Fusion lost a tough 4-0 game to the Team Oak Stars but gutted out a two inning international tiebreaker game 8-7 vs. the Oly Fire to earn second place in the A Pool.

Game #1 - The Fusion could not get the key hits against a good defensive team as no Fusion player struck out in the 5 inning game in the 4-0 loss to the Team Oak Stars from Kankakee. Danielle Warner (1-1) took the pitching loss for the Fusion. Kyley McKeown chipped in a double and a walk at the plate.

Game #2 - In a wild game for second place in the pool, the Fusion earned a two inning international tiebreaker 8-7 victory over the predominate left handed hitting Oly Fire team. Winning pitcher Danielle Warner (2-1), who allowed only one earned run, was a warrior in the circle and was supported well by the Fusion offense as we executed at the right times. Danielle struck out 9 and only allowed one earned run. Christina Pagan had two hits and an RBI for the Fusion. Canella Ontiveros had a big RBI single in the second ITB to plate the eventual wining run.

The Fusion starts single elimination play at Noon on Sunday.

6/11: Fusion Split at Sports Enhancement Tourney

The BNGSA Fusion played one game that counted in Pool Play at the BNGSA Sports Enhancement Tournament and one that did not count towards Pool A Standings Friday night.

Game #1 - The BNGSA Fusion defeated the Central Illinois Explosion 10-2. The Fusion broke open the 1-0 game with 5 runs in the 4th and 4 more in the 5th. Chloe Hundman (2-0) picked up the win.

Game #2 - In an important interBNGSA game that did not factor into our Pool Play standings but it did for the Angels 15, the Fusion were defeted 4-0. Chloe Hundman (2-1) took the loss in the circle for the Fusion.

6/10: Extra Game Friday Night

Due to Metamora's success in the IHSA 3A playoffs, they had to drop from tourney this weekend. So we have an extra game FRIDAY night vs. the Angels 15 immediately after our 7:00 game. This game will not count in our pool play standings. I believe this game will be on Field #7. Extra AB's to get the offense rolling!

We will wear White/Blue pants/socks combo Friday night.

6/9: Fusion Hold off the BNGSA Magic for DH sweep on Opening Night

Champion Fields #6 -- The start of the BNGSA Fusion 2010 summer season was better than years past as the Fusion swept the BNGSA Magic by scores of 3-1 and 5-3. In other words, the High School hangover was not as strong this year!

Game #1 -- The Fusion scored single runs in the 1st, 4th and 6th innings behind the bat of Chloe Hundman and the running of Mychelle Stevens. Chloe finished the game 2-3 with 2 runs batted in while SS Mychelle Stevens went 1-2 and scored two of the Fusion's three runs. Fusion pitcher Danielle Warner (1-0) went the distance scattering 5 hits while striking out 6. Warner and catcher Christina Pagan were on the same page the entire night. The run scored by the Magic was unearned.

Game #2 -- The Fusion scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the second inning en route to a 5-3 victory. Pitcher Chloe Hundman (1-0) went the distance for the Fusion also scattering 5 hits while striking out 4. Chloe also kept the bat going as she was 2-2 at the plate and drove in two more runs. 1B Cassie Saufley executed a nice "safety squeeze" to plate an early run and super sub Sydney Hollings had an RBI single in the bottom of the 2nd. Julie Herek had an RBI for the Fusion. 3B Jane McCullough executed several nice defensive plays as well.

The Fusion return to action Friday night in the 16U Sports Enhancement Classic at Champion Fields Friday night vs. the Central Illinois Explosion at 7:00 on Champion Fields #5.

6/7: Four Fusion Girls Earn High School Softball Honors

Fusion/U-High Sophomore 3B/2B Shannon Stuart was named to the Corn Belt Conference 1st team by league coaches.

Fusion/U-High 2B/3B Junior Jane McCullough was named to the Corn Belt Conference second team.

Fusion/U-High Junior P/RF Danielle Warner earned Corn Belt Conference honorable mention honors.

Fusion super utility player and BHS 3B/U player Julie Herek earned Big 12 honorable mention honors!

6/5: U-High takes Metamora to wire in IHSA Sectional Final

U-High overcame a 4 run deficit and rode a tie game into the bottom of the sixth inning before Metamora plated three runs to end U-High's state playoff run in the sectional final with a final score of 7-4. Fusion P/SS Chloe Hundman had a big 2 out RBI to help the Pioneers battled back. Fusion P/OF Danielle Warner scored a run for the Pioneers. The Maggie Bee solo shot to tie the game was pretty exciting. Here is a must see video: Week Sports -- Great Video

U-High finishes the season 21-14 and had its deepest post season run since 2004.

6/2: U-High advances to 3A Sectional Final!

In a thrilling 7th inning, the U-high Pioneers executed on both sides of the ball to earn a 2-1 victory over the home team and regional host Streator Wildcats. Former Fusion player Mia Hartung scored the eventual winning run on a Kelsey Wilson sacrifice fly to send the hostile Streator crowd home disappointed and their girls to summer ball.

Pinch hitter Hartung started the inning with an infield single. Hartung was bunted over and then Fusion/U-High 2B Jane McCullough followed with a single to CF to move Hartung to 3B. Senior Kelsey Wilson then hit the sac fly to plate the winning run.

U-High started the scoring in the top of the first after Shannon Stuart lined a two out single to LC and then scored on a two out hit by Senior Haley Cook.

Fusion/U-High Junior 2B Jane McCullough readies to single to center in 7th inning

The real difference in the game was the execution of the U-High defense making routine plays and a few great plays to keep a good Streator offense from having a big inning.

In the bottom of the 7th, Streator earned a leadoff walk and then the runner was bunted to 2B. The next Streator batter singled to Senior CF Kelsey Wilson who erased the Streator runner from the base paths by at least 25 feet. Fusion/Pioneer catcher Kyley McKeown put the two handed tag on the runner for the second out.

U-High then intentionally walked the heavy hitting Streator catcher. Fusion/U-High SS Chloe Hundman caught the game winner to advance the Pioneers to the sectional final Saturday at 11:00 am.

Other notes: The PA announcer was about as bad as it get. Mispronounced most U-High names during introductions and throughout the game. Unacceptable to not make an effort to pronounce names right. Shame on you. Also, the barbed wire along the right field line fence gave the field a flavor of the football field in the "Longest Yard". The shed is a major safety issue.

6/2: Great Season Comes to an End for Normal West

The Normal West Wildcats ended their season with the first loss of the season at the hands of East Moline 5-1 in IHSA 4A sectional play. This brings to an end a remarkable 33-1 season that Fusion 1B/OF Cassie Saufley and Fusion C/OF Christina Pagan were important contributors.

5/29: UHigh and Normal West advance to Sectionals

The Normal West Wildcats continue their perfect season by defeating Minooka 1-0 to win the NCHS 4A regional. A walk off single int he bottom of the seventh inning did it for the Wildcats. West moves to 33-0 and will face Moline High School on Wednesday June 2. Location has not been determined. The University High School Pioneers also moved on in the IHSA 3A playoffs by defeating Bloomington High School 3-1 to earn the Bloomington Regional title. U-High will face Streator High School in Streator on Wednesday June 2nd at 4:30.

This game was tough becasue it was Fusion teammates vs. Fusion teammates. BHS sophomores OF-Canella Ontiveros and Utility-Julie Herek had excellent seasons for the Purple Raiders and were major contributors.

The Twin City Classic tournament times for 6/11-6/13 have been posted to the BNGSA website. The tourney starts on Friday night (6/11) this year. We begin Pool Play at 7:00 pm vs. the Central Illinois Xplosion on Field #5. We continue Pool Play on Saturday (6/12) morning at 9:00 am on Field #5 vs. Team OAK Stars. Our final Pool Play game is at Noon on Field #5 vs. Oly Fire. Single elimination begins on Sat. night at 7:00 p.m. if we get third in our pool. If we get 1st, 2nd or 4th in our pool, we don't play again until Sunday.

5/26: Fusion Girls Shine in 3A and 4A Playoffs

Results from 3A and 4A IHSA Regional action so far this week:

In the 3A Bloomington Regional Tuesday, #1 U-High defeated #4 Morton 7-0. One of my favorite high school players of all time, Kelsey Wilson, lead off the game with a homer to RC. Our Fusion girls were fantastic on both sides of the ball. Fusion Soph. 3B Shannon Stuart had three hits and an RBI for U High. Junior 2B Jane McCullough added two doubles and an RBI. In 3A action Wednesday Night, #3 regional seed Bloomington defeated #2 Washington 3-0. Fusion Soph 3B Julie Herek reached base twice on an error and a walk, scored a run and had a sac bunt. Soph RF Canella Ontiveros threw a runner out at 3B to change an inning around in the middle of the game. Great work! BHS plays #1 U-High Saturday at 11:00 am the Regional final at BHS.

5/18: Tracy Picks Up win in 1A Regional for Ridgeview

Fusion lefty OF/P Brigette Tracy gave up five hits and struck out four as fourth-seeded Ridgeview downed No. 5 Lexington, 3-1, in a Class 1A Milford Regional quarterfinal game at Colfax. The Mustangs meet top-seeded GCMS at 4:30 Wednesday in Milford.

Brigette has figured in 24 decisions for Ridgeview this season. Looks like she gets to pitch another game.
