3/31: Hundman, Warner and McCullough help U-high pound Morton

Fusion P/SS Chloe Hundman struck out 10 while scattering six hits to lead the U-High Pioneers to their fifth win in many tries in Morton Wednesday night. Chloe also had three hits, including two doubles driving in two runs. The pitching victory was Chloe's second in as many outings this season.

The game was close until the top of the top of the sixth when Haley Cook started an eight run inning by launching a bomb to LC to make the score 3-0. A few batters later, Danielle Warner burned the right fielder for an RBI triple and then scored on a grounder to 2b by former Fusion player Mia Hartung to make the score 5-0. 2 more runs came in on one of two Chloe's doubles later in the inning. Danielle finished the night 1-2 with a sacrifice bunt.

Fusion/U-high 2B Jane McCullough also contributed to the scoring in the 6th with a single and a run scored. Jane was 1-4 on the night with a sacrifice bunt.

In JV action, Morton got the best of the Pioneers in a 10-0 loss. Fusion girls Kyley McKeown and Shannon Stuart batted 1 and 2 for U-High and started at C and 3B respectively. Kyley tallied a one out double to to the fence early in the game and then was stranded. From then on it was all Potters. The game did feature a 45 pitch inning. Wowsaa.

The Varsity Pioneers enter a tough stretch of games starting Saturday vs. Tri-Valley. Then Normal West and Olympia follow next Monday and Tuesday.

3/31: Canella Ontiveros Raps 4 Hits in Slugfest with Streator

In a high scoring slugfest, Fusion girl Canella Ontiveros recorded 4 hits to continue her hot early season hitting to help her BHS teammates stay in the game with the visitors from Streator Wednesday night. Streator plated 4 runs in the top of the 7th and then held BHS scoreless in the bottom half for the win. Keep up the good work Canella!

3/30: Fusion Girl Foes - U-High beats Ridgeview

L to R (Chloe Hundman; Jane McCullough, Brigette Tracy, Danielle Warner)

After being rained out the last two years, U-High finally had a game with Ridgeview. On a beautiful evening in Colfax, two blocks from Brigette's house, the U-High Pioneers won their 4th straight game by a score of 10-0. Danielle Warner earned the shutout victory for the Pioneers scattering three hits in the run rule shortened affair. Danielle struck out 8 and did not give up a free pass. Not much to report offensively as the first pitcher for Ridgeview issued a bunch of walks.
Fusion OF/P Brigette Tracy pitched in relief for the Mustangs. Throwing left handed, Brigette struck out two and only allowed two Pioneer earned runs. Brigette also struck out teammate Danielle Warner and then Danielle returned the favor in the following inning. Brigette also played 1B for the Mustangs and in this coach's opinion will see a bunch of time in the circle. After the game we bought gas at Casey's and then ended up in Lexington while trying to cut cross country to north Normal.
